Microsoft, this week, launched its Live Search Maps for India that offers access to detailed street maps for nine cities, business listings across 29 cities and access to highway networks to 20,000 cities and towns.
Besides the cities of Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai, the newly uncovered India Live Search Maps from Microsoft India also include Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, and Pune for providing detailed data like addresses, road-networks, area-information, landmarks, elaborate street-maps, monuments, hotels & restaurants, and other similar places of public interest.
Users also have the option to print, share collections through email, or blogs on Windows Live. Live search maps on mobile is a direct service without any interference from the mobile service providers. It provides 2D mobile maps, location search and driving directions.
“Microsoft has been conducting relatively significant investments into research and development for Live Search since the last two years. Srivastava further added that besides acquiring global resources, they had introduced some new but extremely relevant features, which would be of great value to the users,” said Rishi Srivastava, the head of the consumer online marketing operations of Microsoft India.
Microsoft is also planning to include new features like landmark based driving directions, collections search, options for enterprise customers and developer community to create custom mash-ups in this service.
Initially, the service will be free for usage and company will generate revenues through advertisement at the later days, added Srivastava.
The service is the first version of its local mapping service for India with the key features developed by the Microsoft India Development Centre (MSIDC) based in Hyderabad. Available both on PC and mobile, Live Search Maps for India is available on Microsoft's Live Search Service. |
