Google & Verizon to Tie the Knot? |

According to similar reports from several sources, Google and Verizon are in for an agreement that will establish Google as the default search engine for the mobile phone service provider's products.
The deal, still not final, would make Google's search service central to a one-stop search mechanism for Verizon devices, and Google will share revenue from the service. Still under negotiation are issues such as whether Google would be allowed to save information from users' searches.
The deal brings together two giant companies that have been on opposite sides for most of the year. However, Verizon is just one of the the companies on the mobile market to make and agreement with the Internet giant, joining Sprint Nextel and Nokia on Google's new list of partners.
Mobile phones, increasingly powerful and ubiquitous, are a major battleground for technology companies seeking to consolidate a fragmented market. Google rival Yahoo already has mobile phone software deals with several mobile operators. |
