EMC Corporation announced that the digital universe in 2007 was equal to almost 45 Gigabytes of digital information for every person on earth. Indonesia's digital development contributes to the world's digital universe explosion.
The digital universe is growing more rapidly than original estimates as a result of accelerated growth in worldwide shipments of digital cameras, digital surveillance cameras, and digital televisions as well as a better understanding of information replication trends.
Other fast-growing corners of the digital universe include those related to the Internet access in emerging countries, sensor-based applications, data centers supporting "cloud computing" and social networks comprised of digital content created by many millions of online users.
On the other hand, IDC's updated growth projections and new findings expected to impact business and society based on new data and analysis that indicate at 281 billion gigabytes (281 exabytes), the digital universe in 2007 was 10% bigger than previously estimated. With a compound annual growth rate of almost 60%, the digital universe is growing faster and is projected to be nearly 1.8 zettabytes (1,800 exabytes) in 2011, a 10-fold increase over five years.
"Today's corporation needs towards a total information infrastructure solution from data archiving to protection to virtualization," said Jimmy Yam, Country Manager, EMC Indonesia and Emerging Markets. He adds, since EMC has an operation in Indonesia from 2006, EMC made significant investments to anticipate the growing trends of total information infrastructure.
Regarding EMC's plan to Indonesia, Yam explain that Indonesia is a big market. He said, business growth in Indonesia is potential because the market is emerging.
According to Yam, EMC has a plan to move to SMB area. "But, the big market here is still in enterprise area," said Yam who has a plan to make the business growth faster than industry.
