Protection for Legal MP3 in Indonesia Still Low

 

 

Circulation of illegal Motion Picture Expert Group, Layer 3 (MP3) by using Internet in Indonesia is growing fast. On the other hand, the controlling system of industrial music in Indonesia still low.

Dharma Oratmangun, Chairman of Indonesian Societies of Recording Singers, Composers and Music Arrangers said that music technology growth significantly, so that, music industry moves from analog to digital type rapidly. 

He adds, eventhough music market growth rapidly, appreciation for music property still low. "The Indonesia’s president's song is being hacked too," said Oratmangun.

According to Sound Recording Industry Association of Indonesia data, there is a financial loss in this country for 400 million pieces physical media. This loss happens because of too many illegal MP3 spread in Internet in Indonesia. On the other hand, legal MP3 in Indonesia is only around 9.6% or less than 30 million pieces.

Edmon Makarim, Professional staff of law division of Ministry of Communication and Information Technology in Indonesia said that there is still a preventive thing to minimize illegal MP3 spread in Indonesia. "We can create digital right management," said Makarim.
