Yahoo To Supply Bebo With Ads

British social networking site, Bebo has tied up with Yahoo for an exclusive deal to supply ads on its site.

This deal is part of Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang’s recovery plan and will in all probability be extended to other sites as well. The Bebo deal will cover only Ireland and UK for now as Bebo, unlike Orkut and Facebook is the most popular social networking site in the UK Island.

Yang’s plans are to spread advertisements across multiple venues. The Bebo agreement follows the acquisition of Rights Media, an online advertising business, for USD 680 million and a USD 300 million deal to buy BlueLithium, the second-largest advertising network in the UK and the fifth in the US.

Web advertisement in the UK is more than the global average. At 11.4 per cent, UK has higher ad percentage than any other country in the world and the deal makes sense. Between the pair, Yahoo and Bebo will be able to reach 75 per cent of the UK’s online audience, with particularly strong penetration among the difficult to reach 16-to-24-year-old audience.
