Bard Farstad completes the missing bits of his puzzle. He reminds you of his blog entry optimizing Apache, PHP and APC which he wrote last year for the new Macs with Intel CPUs. During that time, an Intentional C Compiler (ICC) was missing to work in his setup. He updates you that this problem is solved with the new soon to be released Intel C++ compiler version 0 from Intel, which completes his jigsaw puzzle. He says things are working better for him now with the same machine and setup with the new compiler installed.
He demonstrates the installation of the compiler and instructs to click through the wizard and when you are done you need to export some environment variables and set the CC compiler variable. Then you compile Apache, PHP and Alternative PHP Cache (APC) as normal.
He has also done a basic test as last time but now with eZ Publish 3.9. He provides some examples to shows the results of the performance improvement. He says, the CPU intensive operations with eZ Publish is boosted about 21 per cent while the more cached operations are boosted about 10 per cent. |
