NXP Teams up with Microsoft to Improve Consumer PC TV Experience

Consumers can soon look forward to an improvement in PC TV experience thanks to a joint solution from NXP and Microsoft.

Previously, installation of NXP-based PC TV tuner products required several time consuming steps. However, by integrating Windows Vista into its inbox drivers, the independent semiconductor company promises its customers that it will no longer be the case.

With the upgrade to Windows Vista, customers can now automatically install NXP-based PC TV turner products experiencing seamless access to the latest working drivers without having to hunt Web sites or CDs.

“Consumers should not have to think about finding drivers or other software to enable their hardware to work with Windows Vista- they should be able to use their hardware straight out of the box,” said Chris Matichuk, Program Manager of Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft Corp.

“..NXP has delivered inbox drivers that ship in Windows Vista, enabling automatic recognition of NXP-based PC TV tuner products.”

According to Martin Maloney, Marketing Director and Manager of BCT PC Video, BU Home, NXP Semiconductors, home entertainment is in the midst of a revolution in which consumers want access to content anytime, anywhere and PC TV is a vital component of this revolution which makes it imperative that they meet the consumers demand.

Over 100 products based on NXP PC TV tuner solutions have inbox driver support for Windows Vista including products based on the NXP family of PCI and PCI Express PC TV Socs, SAA713x and SAA716x.
