Web's Most Popular Sites Running on PHP

A post over the Royal Pingdom blog lists the most popular seven web sites and says that PHP is one of the favorite scripting language for them. The sites— TechCrunch, FeedBurner, iStockPhoto, YouSendIt, Meebo, Vimeo, and Alexaholic though statistically constitute a small drop in an ocean of websites consisting of more than 100 million domain names on the Internet. In many aspects they show a surprising consistency when it comes to their choices of underlying technology, usually with a strong bias towards open source. The post says that PHP rules the server-side scripting. Just like Apache, it is the most common web server software. PHP has been the most popular server-side scripting language for years and will probably remain so for some time, despite the hype around Ruby on Rails and other frameworks and scripting languages that are growing in popularity, states the post.

It further informs you that as of November 2006, there were more than 19 million web sites(domain names) using PHP.
