Verizon Business will be expanding its network capacity in Australia to support the evolving voice and data needs of its multinational customers based in, or operating in, the country.

The company which has operations in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, has signed agreements with Telstra and NextGen to provide secure, high-bandwidth dedicated backbone facilities.

Customers can expect to benefit from improved performance and reduced latency in the delivery of their business-critical information over the network. The additional facilities will also enhance network diversity and resilience to help keep business communication flowing in the event of any single point of failure.

Verizon also recently activated dedicated private Internet protocol (IP) nodes in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra and Perth, complementing existing nodes in Melbourne and Sydney. Verizon Private IP nodes offer customers with operations in the region a direct and secure, high-performance link to the Verizon Business global MPLS network.

Verizon Private IP is a network-based, virtual private network (VPN) that enables customers to effectively communicate over a secure network. The service also provides the foundation for automating business processes between companies, including e-commerce, and shared intranets and extranets. Based on multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) technology, Verizon Private IP offers customers scalable and flexible network connections with integrated performance and traffic-management capabilities.

“This investment is about improved quality of service: Our customers now have an even higher level of global service security and reliability,” said Ihab Tarazi, vice president, global network planning, Verizon Business.

“Australia is a key market for multinational companies operating in the fast-growing Asia-Pacific region. We’re investing in both our network and technology to enhance global service and quality for our customers.

“This expansion is the latest in a series of investments in our global network infrastructure designed to support our customers’ evolving IP communications needs. By enhancing our local capacity to provision, we can continue to deliver high-performance, reliable and flexible communications solutions to our customers as they move to increasingly IP-based communications. The activation of additional private IP nodes means that even more customers can gain secure, resilient access to our global IP network.”

Verizon Business’ IP network today spans six continents and includes more than 4,500 IP points of presence throughout North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region. The company’s expansive IP footprint and direct interconnections enable its customers to reach more destinations directly than any other service provider.

Verizon Business is continuing to invest in its network, products and customer support across the Asia-Pacific region as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to providing seamless global service.

The company already services customers in the region through a network of 28 offices in 13 countries, as well as via partnerships with key local players such as SoftBank Telecom in Japan and China Telecom in China.
