US based ailing smartphone maker Palm has entered the low priced smartphones business by launching its smallest smartphone. The launch is being looked as a bid to revive growth and offer a cheaper alternative to Apple’s iPhone.
Called as Centro, Palm will sell it for just USD 100. The Centro is a smaller and lighter version of its popular Treo smartphone.
The device has a full keyboard, touch screen, and can read and send e-mail or manage documents and spreadsheets.
Palm said the Centro is being targeted at traditional mobile phone users that want a powerful device at a moderate price.
"It has crossed into feature phone market, which is 10 times the size of us just competing with RIM head-to-head, or us going after the iPhone," Ed Colligan, chief executive of Palm said. |
