IBM researchers have developed software that can translate spoken words into sign language for deaf people. Called as SiSi (Say It Sign It), the software is useful for deaf people in real world situation. This technology can be used when human interpreters aren’t available.
However IBM said the technology is still a prototype and understands only British Sign Language as it was developed in England. IBM expects the product to become commercial very soon when it starts integrating into other deaf accessibility products.
The technology firstly converts spoken words into text that in turn is converted into gestures used in sign language. |
