Sony will launch four Blue-ray disc recorders in Japan in November. Sony is one of the biggest backers of Blue-Ray technology and this launch in competition to Toshiba that has launched HD-DVD recorders. On other hand Toshiba sells two HD DVD players and one recorder.
The new models, capable of storing up to 16 hours of high-definition programmes on a dual-layer, 50-gigabyte (GB) Blue-ray disc, will go on sale on Nov. 8.
Sony's previous models, which were introduced last year, were unable to record on a dual-layer disc. The four models may also be sold in European markets, Katsumi Ihara, Sony official said.
Sony along with Samsung and Matsushita are backing Blue-Ray technology while HD-DVD, which is also trying to become a new home video standard, is being backed by Microsoft and Intel. |
