Dell believes that better virtualisation technology will increase the use of Linux on business and consumer desktops.

To make this vision a reality, Dell has asked the open source community to help develop the appropriate software.

Kevin Kettler, chief technology officer, dell, said the company’s "vision" is to see the Linux adoption grow to take on the growing domination of Microsoft Windows.

Dell said this because it is planning to launch computers that can run both Windows and Linux software so that consumers have better choice. And to run both the software Dell says Virtualisation software can provide choice by enabling the creation of multiple virtual machines to run either operating system.

Kettler said, in order to realise the full potential of virtualisation on a PC, the technology must first be very easy to use.
