The world’s third largest PC maker, Lenovo Group has confirmed that it will soon roll out laptops preloaded with the Linux software from Novell Inc. as an alternative operating system to Microsoft’s Windows.

The announcement was made this week at Linuxworld- an annual conference for IT managers which is being held in San Francisco.

Linux is apparently one of the fastest-growing software on servers and powerful business computers and contrary to popular belief many PC makers actually have started to embrace it.

Earlier this year, after customers posted an overwhelming request on the organization’s forum site, Dell started to sell some of its models with the Ubuntu version of Linux to its US based customers.

The Lenovo laptops are scheduled to be available by the end of 2007 to both business customers as well as consumers.

Microsoft and Novell entered into a partnership last November to provide each other’s customers with patent coverage for their respective products until 2012 thus, providing choice and flexibility through improved interoperability and manageability between Windows and Linux.
