Eclipse-Powered Instantiations Climbs Oregon's Fastest-Growing 100 Private Companies List

Instantiations has been ranked as the 19th fastest-growing private company in Oregon. The company achieved the ranking by building its profitable business on the open source software model. This is the second consecutive year that the company has been ranked in the Top 100. Last year the company ranked 51st.

"We're delighted to be recognized for the second year in a row among this prestigious group," said Mike Taylor, Instantiations CEO. "And especially so because such recognition will inspire other companies to build profitable businesses based on the open source model." Taylor and others from Instantiations are deeply involved in the Eclipse open source community. Taylor was on the committee that helped the Eclipse open source community establish a nonprofit foundation in 2003 and was recently re-elected to the Eclipse Foundation board.

"We believe open source software, especially Eclipse, provides the most innovative technology and software for developing critical enterprise development tools and software applications, and we're passionate about building a profitable businesses with it," said Taylor.

Instantiations has five primary products: WindowBuilder Pro, WindowTester Pro, RCP Developer, CodePro AnalytiX and VA Smalltalk. Its product for creating graphical user-interfaces (GUIs), WindowBuilder Pro is used by tens of thousands of Eclipse developers worldwide. WindowTester Pro automates testing of Java GUIs. RCP Developer is a development tool to leverage the open source Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP) for creating Java-based client and standalone desktop applications. An automated software quality tool, CodePro AnalytiX helps developers measure and improve the quality of software as they create it. VA Smalltalk is an integrated development environment for the Smalltalk programming language.

Instantiations, along with the other Private 100 companies, was recognized at the annual Fastest-Growing Private 100 Companies Awards Reception held on June 21 at the Portland Art Museum. Mark Johnson, vice president of marketing and business development, accepted the award on behalf of Instantiations.

This list recognizes the privately-owned companies in Oregon demonstrating the most revenue growth over the past three years and includes companies from an array of industries in healthcare, real estate, technology and others. To be eligible for the Fastest Growing Private 100 list, companies must be headquartered in Oregon and operating a minimum of three years. The list of the fastest growing private 100 companies was compiled by the Portland Business Journal newspaper and validated by accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.
