The AJAX Tooling Framework (ATF) project has passed its creation review and is now being incubated inside the BEA-lead Web Tools Platform (WTP) project at Eclipse.org. ATF is a collection of Eclipse-based technologies designed to make developing rich Internet applications based on AJAX easier.
The WTP project is a top-level Eclipse project that extends the Eclipse platform with tools for developing J2EE Web applications. The WTP project includes the following tools: source editors for HTML, JavaScript, CSS, JSP, SQL, XML, DTD, XSD, and WSDL; graphical editors for XSD and WSDL; J2EE project natures, builders, and models and a J2EE navigator; a Web service wizard and explorer, and WS-I Test Tools; and database access and query tools and models.
“WTP is excited to host this technology,” said Dr Tim Wagner, WTP Project Lead from BEA, “This complements the existing tools in WTP and will make it easier for users of the project and products built on top of it to design, build, and deploy Web 2.0 applications.” “This project is an exciting advance for AJAX,” said Bill Roth, VP of the BEA Workshop product group. “While it will take some time to mature, this is an important step in getting the industry to agree on what AJAX really is.”
