Eclipse Google Summer Code Projects Announced
Eclipse Google Summer of Code projects have been announced. Here is a brief of the projects to watch out for:

Benjamin Muskalla will be working on improving multi-monitor support, in a project monitored by Kimberly Horne. Working o a dual or triple screen in Eclipse, while possible, could be more efficient. While detaching multiple views is relatively easy, but they have to be arranged manually. The project also tackles another common task for an application today--full screen mode. As seen in other development environments, this can help to concentrate on the source code itself instead of being distracted by all the views, icons and other things around the editor area.

Chris Aniszczyk will be mentoring Robert Ian Bull for the Plug-in Dependency Visualisation project. The current plug-in dependency analysis tools available in Eclipse are restricted to simple tree views with drill-down support.
This project aims to bring visualisation to the PDE and provide exemplary tools to the Zest framework, with the aim of improving the visibility of Zest and ultimately bring a lightweight visualization framework to the Eclipse platform.

Balazs Brinkus has also picked up an SOC, and will work on improving Mylar's new experiences. The project's goal is to write a plug-in which presents for the new Mylar from the basics to the every day use, and is being mentored by Mik Kersten, the creator Mylar himself. In another Mylar based project, Jevgeni Holodkov will work under Scott Lewis for Mylar synchronous context sharing, based on Mylar and ECF integration. The goal of such context sharing is to provide more seamless knowledge sharing process, allow sharing context synchronous even if the used connector does not support context sharing or no connectors used at all.

Gunnar Wagenknecht is mentoring Zhang Rui in a project aiming to develop a plug-in for Eclipse to wrap compiled Java applications and give out an executable file. It is supposed to support both Windows and Unix-like Systems. Wagenknecht will also be monitoring Reid Holmes in the WebDAV EFS Implementation, a project to allow Eclipse platform users to use remote WebDAV repositories as mount-points for projects and files. Being able to treat remote repositories as if they were local is beneficial to many development groups including web designers, server-application developers, and anyone creating Eclipse plug in update sites.
